Learn to program the remote to your 2009 Toyota Highlander without any help from the dealer. This includes the XLS model.
Programming Instructions: Note: This is the same for many Toyota vehicles.
Remove the key from the ignition. Lock all of the doors, but open the driver’s side door. Leave it unlocked. Insert the key into the ignition twice within five seconds. Don’t turn it. Close then open the door twice. Insert the key again then remove it from the ignition.
Close then open the driver’s side door. Close then open the driver’s side door again. Insert the key. Leave it in the ignition. Close the door. Turn the key to “On,” without starting the engine, and then turn it off. Remove the key. You’ll hear the door locks sound.
Push and hold “Lock” and “Unlock” buttons on the remote for two seconds, and then release the buttons. Then push and hold “Lock” for three seconds. The remote is now programmed.

I follow the instructions how many times but i don’t heard the door lock sound on my 2009 Toyota Highlander.
The Remote Guy says
Hey Janjau – I don’t know what to tell you – these are the instructions right from the technical manual from Toyota. Perhaps the year is different? I would try it again, step by step – the other thing I know people have had issues with is with the batteries. make sure the batteries in the remote are fully charged. If they aren’t it may affect the ability to program the remote. Let me know how it goes – I will ask around and see if anyone else is having issues.
Good Luck!

what about if the car start by button , the remote was lost , i asked for one from toyota , they send it to me , but still not working , thank you
The Remote Guy says
Hi Jad, what model/year is your car? The instructions will depend on that more than anything. If the remote sent to you from Toyota doesn’t work, I would just take the car into a dealer with the reciept and they should program it for you to make it work. I would be surprised if they charged you to program it…wouldn’t seem right!
Cheers!

Have 2009 Highlander, 4 cylinder. Your instructions do not work for it.

Have a 2009 Highlander and have tried the instructions numerous times and failed. Have seen several comments that said this vehicle must go to dealership?
