2001 Mercury Grand Marquis Remote Programming

Programming Instructions:Note: The programming procedure is identical for many Ford, Lincoln, and Mercury vehicles, as well as for the Mazda Tribute and Mazda B-Series truck.

Sit in the car’s driver’s seat. Put the key in the ignition. Turn the key from OFF to RUN at least 8 times within a 10 second window. NOTE: You must do this very quickly for it to work. If successful, you’ll hear the doors lock and unlock. This lets you know the system is ready to accept the remote. Push any button on the remote. The door locks will lock and unlock. The remote is programmed.

Didn’t work for me. I have a 2002 Mercury Grand Marquis. I also tried these instructions:

    1. Turn ignition from OFF to RUN 4 times within 3 seconds, with the 4th time
ending in RUN. Door locks will cycle to confirm programming mode.
    2. Within 20 seconds, press any button on first keyless remote. Door locks will
    cycle to confirm programming.
    3. Within 20 seconds press any button on second keyless remote. Door locks
    will cylcle to confirm programming.
    4. Turn ignition to OFF.

These too didn’t work. I don’t know if all grand marquis come standard with a remote or if you need to have the keypad on the door for it to work?
